Pakistan youth take on Kenya in rare cricket meeting in Nairobi

Kenya will make a reciprocating tour to Lahore to play five 45-over matches against Pakistan ‘A’

PAKISTAN playing cricket in Kenya this weekend; a very rare happening but Pakistan High Commissioner to Kenya, Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui said on Friday that this will renew the credibility of both countries as an international match hosts.

The Kenya and Pakistan Under-19 cricket teams will play five one day matches in Nairobi beginning on Saturday. Then Kenya will travel to Lahore, Pakistan, next week to play five 45 over matches against Pakistan ‘A’.

Security concerns

In Nairobi on Friday, the Pakistan High Commissioner said: “Since 2009 we [Pakistan] have not been able to host any matches at home due to security concerns. This partnership is a way of reviving cricket at home.”

Also speaking on Friday at Nairobi Gymkhana, venue of three of the five matches in the Kenya-leg, Cricket Kenya chairperson Jackie JanMohammed said: “This tour is part of our preparations for the Africa region Under-19 World Cup qualifiers in February 2015.”


The Pakistan Under-19 is the first representative national cricket team touring Kenyan since 2011. They are in the country as part of a partnership between Cricket Kenya and the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Kenya Under-19 coach Thomas Odoyo has 22 players in camp. There are 14 from Nairobi, six from Mombasa, and one each from Nakuru and Kakamega.


“The boys are excited that they will face a high calibre team in the form of Pakistan, “said Odoyo.

“They are also aware that their performance in these matches will merit their selection to the team that will be going for the qualifiers in February.”
