No trouble from chasers as Indiza lifts inaugural Rapid Challenge title

DISMAS Indiza closed with a round of 71 for a total two under par 211 to win the Rapid Challenge golf tournament at Muthaiga on Thursday.

The Mumias Sugar player started the day with a two shots advantage over Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine.

Indiza recovered from a double bogey over the course’s toughest hole, the par four-eighth and two earlier bogeys at the third and seventh, to post a level par 71 on the final day.

Two shots to spare

He started the back nine well rolling in a birdie at the par five-10th. He then three-putted the 11th but managed to birdie the 13th.

He closed with a birdie at the home green to take the first prize of Sh70, 500 with two shots to spare from Railway’s Njuguna Ngugi who fired one under par 70 in the final round that included four birdies and three bogeys for 213.

Tough hole

Rokoine meanwhile dropped to third place with 216 after a three over par 74. Birdies became elusive for Rokoine who only managed a birdie at the tough par five-seventh, having bogeyed the first and a five at the par three-second.

Muthaiga’s resident professional Anil Shah shot three over par 74 to wind up fourth with a total of 218, a shot better than Ajay Shah (72), David Opati (71), and John Wangai who also shot level par 71 in the final round.

A total of 33 professionals and six amateurs had been listed to play.
