Kenya on track against Burundi; close All Africa Games slot chase against Uganda on Saturday

Meanwhile, the third leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League [KVF-NL] launched on Friday morning in Kericho Teachers College

KENYA are now taking on Burundi in their third All Africa Games qualifying tournament match in Kampala on Friday as the third leg of the domestic Kenya Volleyball Federation National Football League continues at the Kericho Teachers College.

After victories over continental arch rivals Egypt on the opening day on Tuesday, the successful Kenya women’s national team, Malkia Strikers, sponsored by National Oil Corporation of Kenya [NOCK], romped over Ethiopia on Wednesday keeping their aim of clean sweep in focus.

Closing game

The Kenyan girls are currently leading Burundi having easily taken the first set 25-11. If they beat Burundi, the David Lung’aho coached team will hope to do the same against Uganda in the closing game on Saturday, win the championship and qualify for the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville in September.

Kenya, three-time winners at the Games, have, however, performed poorly in the past three editions, their last triumph dating back to 1999 in [Johannesburg] South Africa.

Third leg

Two teams from the qualifier in Kampala will pass through to Brazzaville and Egypt are poised to accompany Kenya.

Meanwhile, the third leg of the KVF-NL, launched on Friday morning in Kericho and among highlights were Kenya Prisons (men) extending their wins to four matches this season following 3-1 (25-19,24-26, 25-18, 25-21) defeat of Prisons Kakamega.

After the league fixtures on Friday, teams swing into tournament action competing for the Mutai Enterprise Cup on Saturday and Sunday.
