Police upset Butali Warriors but Kisumu side still heads Premier League table

In the only women's league match also played at City Park, defending champions Telkom Orange drubbed Sliders 9-0, Orange’s highest win ever over Sliders

KENYA Police ended the winning streak of champions Butali Sugar Warriors by beating them 2-1 in a Kenyan Hockey Union men’s Premier League at the City Park Stadium, Nairobi on Sunday.

The Kisumu-based champions arrived in Nairobi and earlier [Saturday] beat Kenya College of Accountancy [KCA] University 4-0. But Police’s Felix Okoth and Moses Cheplaiti cancelled Zack Aura’s opener for Butali to rock the visitors.

Revenge

After four matches, Police remained the only unbeaten team but Butali still lead the table with 12 points. The win was a sweet revenge for Police who lost by the same margin to Butali in who grabbed last year’s title in the play-offs.

Butali took the lead with Aura’s 37th minute goal before Okoth (43rd) and Cheplaiti (61st) turned the tide.

Highest

In the only women’s league match also played at City Park, defending champions Telkom Orange drubbed Sliders 9-0, Orange’s highest win ever over Sliders.

The champions led 5-0 at halftime with two goals from Lilian Aura (30th and 35th minutes), Audrey Omaido (11th), Irene Ofula (27th) and Hellen Chemtai.

After the break, Orange increased the lead after nine minutes with Ann Juma’s and Caroline Guchu scores for 7-0. Jackline Wangeci and Maureen Okumu completed the rout.
