Upset league win for Sharks as KHU calls for Olympic Games preps at City Park

Kenya teams will be taking part in the Africa qualification tournament for Rio Games in Ismailia, Egypt in October

GREEN SHARKS previously lowly placed on the log had a thrilling 2-0 win over big guns Strathmore University on Sunday in a Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League clash at the City Park Stadium.

Strathmore did not know what hit them as Leon Magomere 29th minute and Samuel Mucheke 56th minute goals mesmerised in them.

League leadership; however remained with top team Butali Sugar Warriors of Kisumu County dictating the pace for second-placed Kenya Police.

In a women’s Premier League encounter, Yvonne Karanja provided the 54th minute winner for Strathmore University Scorpions against Sliders but it was a scrappy performance by the subdued varsity students who had hoped to roll over Sliders, whipped 9-0 by Telkom Orange the previous weekend.

Meanwhile the KHU have announced a national team call up, kick-starting at the City Park Stadium on Tuesday [May 19, 2015] preparations for Africa 2016 Olympic Games qualifiers to be held in Ismailia, Egypt between October 17 and 24.
