ALL teams completed 18 matches in the Kenyan Premier League catching up with the total of table toppers Gor Mahia whose six-point lead was cut to three when challengers Tusker won 2-0 against hapless bottom team Kenya Commercial Bank [KCB] at Ruaraka on Wednesday.

Gor Mahia now have 37 points, Tusker 34 and third-placed Sofapaka, who were slowed down by a 1-1 draw at home to Chemelil to stay on 30.

To keep off those sniping at their heels, Gor Mahia must endeavour to beat AFC Leopards on Sunday and Ulinzi Stars on August 5, before taking a League break to compete in the Cecafa Kagame Cup Club Championship between August 8 and 24 in Kigali, Rwanda.

AFC Leopards, rocked by internecine squabbles at the moment diverted attention from the shenanigans with an emphatic 2-0 victory at Nyayo Stadium against Nairobi City Stars.

Tusker 2-0 KCB

Jesse Were and Ismail Dunga scored the goals for Tusker who were in full control against a Kenya Commercial Bank which appears doomed at the bottom of the table. The bankers have lost 13 times.

Nairobi City Stars 0-2 AFC Leopards

Under cloudy, chilly mid-week conditions at the Nyayo National Stadium it was no wonder that you could count on your hands the number that bothered to watch AFC Leopards, a team that at times packs the 30,000 capacity venue.

But Leopards raised themselves for a deserved 2-0 win which might motivate the supporters to come back for the must-watch “Nairobi Derby” with arch rivals Gor Mahia at the venue on Sunday.

Noah Wafula – in his first appearance after a long stint of injury – gave Leopards the opener in the sixth minute when he raced forward to confront and beat an approaching City Stars ‘keeper Frederick Majani.

Striker Austin Ikenna, the Nigerian, doubled the lead in the 12th minute with a header from a Martin Imbalambala cross and it was a lot of credit to City Stars that they were able to deny Leopards scoring more for the rest of the match.

Second half

In fact, City Stars put up a strong show especially in the second half, coming close to pulling one back when on 60 minutes Levy Muaka fired wide after trading passes with Kevin Opiyo.

Opiyo had a chance of his own after being played in by Kevin Ochieng’ but put his shot way above the target.

Thika United 1-0 Western Stima

In an early kick off at the Ruaraka Ground, Thika United held their nerves to overpower a gritty Western Stima 1-0 with on-loan striker from Tusker, Michael Olunga scoring the all-important goal.

Mathare United 0-2 Ulinzi Stars

At Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, Ulinzi Stars’ resurgence continued after they cruised to a 2-0 victory over Mathare United.

Former Nairobi City Stars midfielder Boniface Onyango and Eric Apul struck a goal apiece to secure the win for Robert Matano’s men from Kenya Defence Forces.

Sofapaka 1-1 Chemelil

Also at Machakos, Sofapaka shared the spoils with Chemelil Sugar after a 1-1 draw. Hamisi Mwinyi put the Sony ahead in the 84th minute but Sofapaka veteran John Baraza cancelled it out in stoppage time.Muhoroni Youth 1-1 Sony SugarThis match played last Friday say Muhoroni were awarded a penalty late into the first half after Waweru was fouled in the box.Abbas Akinyemi stepped up to take the kick which Lucas Indeche blocked and so did he the rebound with a splendid punch for a corner.

Then Sony’s Samuel Onyango dribbled through defenders to hit home the opener for the visitors and a 1-0 half time lead.

After the break Muhoroni insistent attacking paid off when Ezekiel Otuoma netted from an Abbas Akinyemi cross in the 50th minute.
