Brilliant Olunga hits back to halt ferocious start by Burundi here in Hawasa

Harambee Stars now in against Burundi under boiling temperatures of Hawassa

Kenya 1-1 Burundi (Michael Olunga, 41′ | Amisi Tambwe – 11′)

AN experienced and fluent Burundi team was 1-0 up on Kenya after 24 minutes before Kenya hit back to go level at half time in their Cecafa Challenge Cup Group ‘B’ match in Hawassa, Southern Ethiopia early on Wednesday afternoon.

Amisi Tambwe opened for Burundi before the superb Michael Olunga (42nd) brought Harambee Stars back.

Harambee Stars had only a slight starting change from their won match with Uganda in Addis Ababa on Sunday, striker Michael Olunga coming on in place of Jesse Were. On the bench, new faces were defender Musa Mohammed and midfielder Victor Ali Abondo both of champion club Gor Mahia.

Heat

Conditions were extremely hot and Kenya seemed to struggle against a Burundi team whose most players have been together from youth age-group football since over five years ago. Most prominent were Didier Kavumbagu, 27, of Tanzania club Young Africans, Fuadi Ndayisenga, 25, of Kenya’s Sofapaka, Yussuf Ndikumana, 22, of Bujumbura club Lydia Ludic and Issa Hakizimana of another Bujumbura top club Vital’O.
